Orchestra in Morton Community Unit School District 709

Morton Community Unit School District 709 is one of the most prestigious public school districts in the state of Illinois. Beginning in 2017, Morton has annually been recognized as a “Best Community for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation. Morton is the only downstate public school district in Illinois to be honored with this award. With seven school buildings in the District, Morton’s district enrollment is just over 3,000 students. The Fine Arts programs in Morton are a thriving testament to the community engagement and support that exists for the arts.

The Orchestra program was founded in 1977 by the band directors at MHS. Over time it has grown consistently in numbers and quality over the years. Currently under the direction of Pete Martin and David Getz, the program gives over 150 students, grades 6-12, an enriching and entertaining string instrument education.
